What is the Urban Decay Face Bond Foundation?

Listed as a lightweight, waterproof foundation, the Urban Decay Face Bond Foundation is a matte-based complexion product that claims to combine the skincare benefits of a serum and blurring effect of a self-setting powder while providing a "can't-feel, comfortable wear." It calls on 3% niacinamide to refine skin texture in as little as four weeks. Face Bond is offered in 40 shades, ranging from "1" (fair cool) to "40" (deep cool). The foundation retails for $40. I tried the shade "11" (light cool).

What I like about the Urban Decay Face Bond Foundation

It's easy to use.

When I saw the Face Bond for the first time in its serum-like bottle, I had a strong suspicion that it was going to have a thin, runny texture—similar to a serum—but I was proven wrong...in a good way. Instead, the formula possesses a tacky, but not too drying consistency that's easy to disperse across the face within a matter of a few dots. And you can easily apply this product with the pads of your fingers. As a bonus, the product doesn't squirt out of the bottle, which means you don't have to worry about making a mess of your vanity in the process.

It's barely detectable.

Now, this may be an oxymoron, but what I love about this foundation is that you can't even feel it when it's on your face. And I find that incredible, considering it can do the heavy-duty job of masking my crimson-colored acne scars that are a few months old. In that regard, Face Bond is not your average blemish-covering foundation—caky, thick texture and all.

Wide shade range.

Any decent base product should have a comprehensive shade range that covers all complexions and undertones, and Face Bond checks out. For starters, its lineup includes 40 different shades across the three most common undertones: neutral, warm, and cool.

What I don't like about the Urban Decay Face Bond Foundation

Nothing!

I don't have a bone to pick with Face Bond at all, and my dry, combination skin doesn't either. It's a 10/10, no notes needed.

Is the Urban Decay Face Bond Foundation worth it?

Yes, absolutely.

For its $40 price tag, Face Bond is well worth the investment. The secret to any lasting, flawless makeup look is a good base, and the Face Bond is just that. It played well with all my other favorite complexion products, namely Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer, Milk Makeup Bionic Blush, Glossier Cloud Paint, and the Makeup By Mario Soft Pop Powder Blush, so I'd say it will continue to be a part of my routine.

For reference, its price is in the neighborhood of other top-performing complexion products that I use all the time, such as the $69 Pat McGrath Labs Sublime Perfection Foundation and the $44 Supergoop Protec(tint) Daily SPF Tint. At $40, you could say that Face Bond is a deal compared to its rather pricy competitors. That said, Face Bond should be at the top of your shopping list.
